Innovation and Presentation of Farm Family Fun

Innovation and Presentation of Farm Family Fun

As you are well aware from reading by past columns one of our primary goals of  possessing and operating our family owned farm here in New Jersey is to make real agriculture accessible to families and residents here in the Garden State.  We want folks to see what is happening, how we responsibly grown nutritious food, and to have a little taste of real farm life.

Perhaps one of the most enjoyable events that we have rolled out with these goals in mind this year has been our seasonally fruit themed pancake breakfasts.  We have had a lot of fun inviting all of you on to the farm for a good farmers’ breakfast and judging by your and other guest responses it appears that everyone attending is also having a great time…and being well fed.  We have already offered a strawberry, blueberry, and peach breakfast and this upcoming week-end will feature apples!  This Sunday September 8th will be the final installment of our breakfast series this season and it is sure to be a favorite.  Based upon the popularity of our previous breakfasts our staff members are busy preparing for a very successful and enjoyable event for all of you.

One of the special things that we do is prepare the pancakes directly in front of you so that you are indeed getting a true hot cake right off the grill.  In preparation for lots of pancake guests we have just purchased and put into service an additional large pancake griddle to insure that no one will need to wait for their fresh made pancakes.  Our Food Services expert Scott and our Food Nutritionist Jennifer are also preparing a very special home grown apple topping that will be served warm and ready to be placed on top of your pile of pancakes.  Look for plenty of bacon, sausage, eggs, and more to compliment a great breakfast.  Keep in mind that admission to our “All You Can Eat” breakfast also includes FREE Pick Your Own entry so when you are done eating you can head right out to the fields and orchards and have fun picking apples, peaches, raspberries, blackberries, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and much more.  No reservations are needed and breakfast is being served continuously from 8 am through 12:30 pm so there is plenty of time to enjoy while fitting most anyone’s Sunday morning schedule.

If you enjoy cooking as much as we do with our home grown fruits and vegetables be sure to take advantage of all the knowledge and wisdom that our own Jennifer Borealo offers as our farm Food Nutritionist.  Jennifer has spent her entire professional career sharing and teaching about food, food preparation, food safety, as well as food nutrition and we have been privileged to have her associated with our family and Alstede Farms for the past 35 years.  Look for Jennifer’s handiwork and recommendations on our website where she offers weekly recipes and advice to all of our Highlands Harvest Club CSA members.  All of this information is available to you as well by simply going on our website.  Even easier; use our search bar tool to find only the recipes for the fruit or vegetable that you wish to use.  Jennifer will also be making some guest appearances at our farm store throughout this fall on most week-end afternoons.  Be sure to stop by and visit with her, get some ideas, sample some food, or simply enjoy a fun conversation.  You can also reach her by email at if you ever have a food related question.

Thank you again for your continued support of our family owned farm.  We are grateful to be able to provide your families with an uplifting and positive place to visit and enjoy.
