Here a few more tips for planting transplants and ensuring a successful garden. Start by preparing the soil for planting by loosing and aerating it so that it is loose and not compact. Remove rocks & weeds and work in any organic matter which will help with drainage and maintaining moisture. After your have selected the sunny location, gently remove your plant from the pot or cell, lightly tease the roots apart if compacted. Prepare a hole using your garden trowel, the hole should be twice the diameter of the roots. Place your plant in the hole and cover with soil and firmly push down on the root area to remove any air and secure the plant in the soil. Remember to not overcrowd your plants, allow them enough room so that when they grow larger they are able to branch out. Then it’s time to water your plants. Water enough so that the soil surface never dries out and is consistently moist until the plants are well established. You may choose to cover your plants with straw, shredded newspaper or mulch for weed prevention and moisture retention.
