We are sustainable growers of over 250 varieties of fruits and vegetables and believe that qualifies us as experts in “our field”, chuckle. We all know the benefits of adding more fruits and vegetables into our daily diet and now we are giving you even more reasons to make this happen! In honor of our 40th anniversary that took place in 2022, we featured our Alstede Fresh homegrown produce last year at 1980s prices for a little fun and excitement. The weekly sales were such a success helping introduce more fruits and vegetables to so many families’ tables that we decided to keep it going again this year in 2023, our 41st, and growing, anniversary.
We’re continuing to “throw back prices” to the good ‘ole 1980s so you can enjoy the savings on our Alstede Fresh products that are in season right now. One item will continue to be featured each week so that you can sample and try new farm fresh vegetables and learn to love your veggies. So far this year, we’ve offered sales on Alstede Fresh sweet corn, onions, and eggplant and the sales will continue each week throughout the fall. The sale offer is available at our farm store in Chester, and our farm stands are located in Chester/Mendham, Bridgewater, and Jefferson for one day only, Thursdays, to coincide with #tbt Throwback Thursdays.
Speaking of our farm stands, did you know that we make it easy for you to eat farm fresh with us by offering four store locations? Our main farm store and pick-your-own fields are located in Chester, NJ along with our seasonal farm stand on Route 24 situated between Chester and Mendham. You can also find us at our year-round farm stand in Jefferson NJ and our seasonal stand in Bridgewater NJ. All of these locations offer our freshly picked produce, dairy, eggs, baked goods, freshly prepared foods, honey and so much more. You can learn more about these locations on our website. Fresh Plantings
Our humble roots were planted when Farmer Kurt W. Alstede began farming a couple of acres of land located in Chester
Township, NJ back in 1982. The farmland was originally owned by the Mennen family who purchased the land in the late 30s as a gentleman’s farm raising black Angus bulls and naming it Hideaway Farm. Farmer Kurt began farming at this tract in 1984 and moved onto the property in 1986 and has been living here ever since.
From its inception, Alstede Farms was always a pioneer in the industry with a passion for sustainable and regenerative farming where Farmer Kurt won awards for his soil & water conservation efforts and became known for his innovative farming techniques. Today you will see advances in farming to include sustainable and regenerative practices such as; cover cropping for carbon sequestering, recycling water through a rain barrel system used for trickle irrigation of crops, and zero waste agriculture implementation, where surplus food is donated, blemished food is repurposed and expired food is composted. Other techniques such as row cropping, no-till farming, and increasing crop diversity also aid in the overall sustainability mission.
