Local, promising, young woman farmer and Chester resident, Rebekah A. Alstede, competed in the final four meet of the National level collegiate discussion of the American Farm Bureau’s FUSION reimagined conference, hosted virtually on March 11-13th, 2021. The annual conference offers an opportunity for Farmers across the nation to connect over guest speakers, educational sessions, women’s leadership, and young farmers & rancher’s programs along with a highly competitive, national level collegiate discussion meet.
Alstede won a spot to participate at the national level by placing first in Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s Collegiate Discussion last fall out of 24 competing and was the only one representing the North East region. Alstede “loved being able to share my (her) knowledge and experiences with so many other young farmers throughout the country”.
The competition is crafted to help young students of agriculture formulate communication skills, learn to work together to solve problems and understand important issues facing agriculture. Alstede is proud to follow in her father’s footsteps as he was also a discussion meet contestant and she grew up watching the competition at annual Farm Bureau conventions she attended with her family since she was born. Alstede is a native of Chester and continues to remain involved in managing her family’s 600-acre fruit and vegetable farm. She is studying Agribusiness and Sustainable Agriculture at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown P.A. and plans to transition into an ownership role on her family farm after graduation in May of 2023.
