The first week of CSA took place this week! It’s such an exciting week for our entire team as we get to share the fruits of our labor, literally! Our regenerative farm uses a variety of sustainable farming practices including crop rotation, water conservation, and crop cover. One of the crop covers this season was overwintered carrots. Carrots can withstand cold temperatures and are a perfect choice for keeping soil and minerals in place throughout the winter months. Overwintering also allows us to harvest fresh produce a lot sooner so our CSA members benefit from these sustainable farming techniques that we utilize with early season harvests!

Another exciting addition to the CSA boxes this week are our homegrown black beans. That’s right, we grow our own beans and members received dried black beans in their shares this week along with kale, chives, cilantro, and basil and other early season vegetables. Our high tunnel growing efforts started earlier this year allow us to harvest lots of leafy greens, and some root vegetables to get a head start on early produce to start your CSA season off right.

CSA members love the ability to customize their weekly box allowing them to get the most out of their membership. Customizing takes place weekly where members get to swap out items for other available items offered within that time period according to harvest and yield. Members can also make global preferences, such as not to include kohlrabi, and will have options to choose a replacement from other items that are currently  in season. Customizing your share is a fun and exciting way to eat what you like while saving on your grocery bill. Members liken the excitement of picking up their weekly CSA shares to unwrapping a present on their birthday or Christmas day. It’s just that thrilling and anticipated!

Another bonus to early season membership is the distribution of potted herbs in the shares. Members enjoy receiving these potted herbs, which many are perennial, to plant in their garden or windowsill to have fresh snipped herbs on hand all year round.
