Mary E. Thompson-AlstedeMary Thompson-Alstede knows farming as her family has been farming in Chester for well over 100 years.  In fact, Farmer Kurt began his fruit and vegetable career working with Mary’s grandparents and uncles on her family farm, which is how the two met when they were both kids, over 40 years ago. Mrs. Alstede excels at being involved in the strategic aspect of the family business and as a senior manager provides leadership and direction to the team, including planning and drafting policies for ensuring that business operations are efficient and aligned with company goals. Mrs. Alstede is also responsible for implementing succession planning, identifying the knowledge and skills required of team and family members to plan for the future of the farm.

Some challenges that she anticipates for the farm’s future are the rising cost of labor. She knows that the need for growing healthy food will always be paramount to families and she is poised to bring fresh approaches to the Alstede Farms leadership team.

We’re proud to feature Mrs. Alstede in our continuing highlight and celebration of Women in Business for the month of March. Say hello to Mary next time you visit our family owned and operated farm!
