Alstede Farms' Corn Maze For 2010:
"Words to Live By, Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America"
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America. Alstede Farms proudly joins the Patriot's Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America in commemorating this wonderful event by dedicating its giant 10 acre corn maze to everyone who was ever involved in or supported the Boy Scouts of America.
The giant corn maze this year is entitled: "Words To Live By, Celebrating The 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America". This theme emphasizes the timeless values that young boys are taught in scouting. For almost 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found in the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
The "Words To Live By" corn maze officially opens Friday, September 3rd and will continue to be open until Thanksgiving.

Corn Maze Construction...In The Beginning
 |

|
|
Planted in late June, when the corn plants are about a foot tall, the paths are cut. The entire maze design was laid out in a computer using GPS technology. The design was then cut into the field of solid planted corn using a skid steer tractor with a mower attached. The skid steer has a GPS device that follows the design that was laid out in the computer which insures that only the proper path ways are cut. Once the paths are cut, the Alstede crew must follow through on foot a week or two later to remove any plants that have regrown since their mowing. It is a lot of work to build a corn maze...be sure to come out to visit this year's celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America at Alstede Farms! This year's corn maze will prove to be every bit as challenging as those in past years! In fact, it will be like a "scouting adventure"!
The corn maze has 2 levels of difficulty: The children's trail: "Cub Scout Way" which is less challenging - great for smaller children, and the adult trail: "Eagle Trail" which is much more challenging - great for older children and adults.
